In the last decades, Davao City and its neighboring cities, towns, and provinces have experience unprecedented growth in terms of socio-economic activity, infrastructure development, industrial expansion, real estate as well as agricultural development. These positive developments are attributed to the stable local governance, strong cooperation between the business and the labor sector, aggressive expansion of investments, and good business climate, among others.

On one September evening in the year 2006, seven civil engineers from Davao City, who came from different sectors in the civil engineering profession gathered together. They came from among the academe, the private consulting businesses, and the construction firms. These civil engineers framed a vision and mission that will directly and significantly contribute to the progress and development of the city of Davao, the neighboring cities and municipalities, provinces and the ultimately the country. With the vision and mission established (see separate page), the organization was born. It was named the STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS ASSOCIATION OF DAVAO (SEAD), INC. The organization was eventually incorporated with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on February 14, 2007 as a non-stock and non-profit organization.

SEAD Brief History
After the oath of office of the seven founders, the organization started working aggressively by conducting seminars, conferences, forums, and open communications among fellow civil engineers about the latest and helpful practices in the construction industry. These venues serve as the grounds for equipping, informing, educating engineers from the different sectors of influences, that is, those from the academe, the construction, the government agencies, the consulting groups, the construction suppliers. The exchange of information among the different sectors has been rapidly increasing and therefore creating a momentum of relevance of the practice of engineering to the society. SEAD continues to seek and promote such venues in order to further exchange knowledge and experiences with the civil engineering profession. These were accomplished by inviting reputable personages from the academe and industries known for their expertise and advancement in their fields, both locally and internationally.

Civil engineers who are in agreement and thus embrace the vision and mission of the SEAD are welcome to join the organization. The membership of the organization is steadily growing with members from different civil engineering sectors, notwithstanding the geographical locations, religious affiliations, ethnicity, or political positions and persuasions.

SEAD also seeks to work harmoniously with other allied professions in ways that are beneficial to the profession in particular, and the society in general. SEAD will continue to be a force that will significantly impact the profession, in particular, and the society in general.
